For nearly 100 years, the University of Delaware's Physics and Astronomy department has delivered an exceptional undergraduate physics education aligned with STEM objectives. Our alumni pursue diverse paths, enrolling in physical science and engineering graduate programs, attending medical school, securing industry positions, and teaching at high schools nationwide.
Upon completing the Physics Bachelor of Arts program, students will achieve the following competencies:
Fundamental Knowledge: Exhibit comprehensive understanding of core Physics principles encompassing Classical Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Wave Phenomena, Thermodynamics, and Quantum Mechanics. Graduates will also show advanced proficiency in Mathematics and Computer Science.
Analytical Abilities: Develop capacity to assess data critically, pinpoint essential scientific inquiries in Physics and specialized applications, and articulate methodologies and findings effectively. Students will also master applying sophisticated mathematical techniques to model physical phenomena.
Research Capabilities: Acquire practical expertise with experimental, computational, and analytical tools essential for physics-related careers. This involves demonstrating scientific reasoning, gaining technical research competencies, and cultivating analytical skills for thorough qualitative and quantitative data assessment.
Professional Communication: Master techniques for clear scientific discourse, including written and oral presentation skills to disseminate research findings, while building collaborative abilities vital for teamwork across STEM disciplines.
