This program stands apart from the standard Bachelor of Arts by mandating 60 credits at the 300-level or above. The key distinction from traditional degrees lies in its flexible structure—rather than selecting a predefined major, students craft a personalized course sequence aligned with their academic objectives. The review committee seeks well-structured, achievable proposals that provide interdisciplinary breadth or concentrated depth in a specific area, typically featuring course combinations unavailable through standard degree paths. At least 39 credit hours must directly connect to the BALS project's central theme, with a minimum grade of C- required in these core courses. Participants in the Medical Scholars Program fulfill their Liberal Studies major requirements using the specialized Medical Scholars curriculum framework.
