Art History provides students with analytical perspectives on how artistic and cultural expressions have evolved throughout history and around the globe. We enhance visual literacy, refine writing proficiency, and ignite creativity through encounters with artworks, artifacts, and architectural wonders that have inspired devotion, fueled revolutions, brought joy, or provoked controversy. Nearby institutions like the UD Library, Museums and Press frequently serve as hands-on learning spaces where students cultivate their skills as art critics and curators. Our curriculum covers diverse artistic traditions including American (encompassing Native American, African American, and Latin American), European, African, Asian, and Islamic art, material culture, and architecture. Students can pursue dual or combined majors that complement their interdisciplinary interests, such as pairing with Art Conservation, Anthropology, English, History, or various Languages, Literatures & Cultures programs. By exploring humanity's creative legacy, we inspire students to develop global perspectives.
