The Master of Science (MS) in Statistics equips students with in-depth knowledge of mathematical and applied statistics, opening doors to diverse career opportunities. The curriculum includes focused coursework and computational training across multiple specialized fields. Our graduates pursue rewarding roles in quantitative analysis, analytics, or data science within both corporate and public sectors. The program also serves as excellent preparation for those continuing toward a Ph.D.
To obtain the MS in Statistics, students must fulfill 31 credit hours through required and elective courses. Following completion of mandatory three-credit courses, candidates must successfully pass a comprehensive qualifying examination. Statistical computing competency must be demonstrated through course projects. Unlike some programs, this degree does not mandate a thesis.
With a strong focus on practical statistics, the program requires at least one applied course in fields like biology, business, economics, nutrition, or psychological sciences. (Prospective students interested specifically in biostatistics should explore our MS in Biostatistics program.)
Most full-time students complete the degree in three semesters by taking four courses per term. Exceptionally prepared individuals with substantial statistical background may finish the program within one academic year.
