The Department of Molecular and Cell Biology provides a Master of Science (MS) program specializing in Molecular and Cell Biology.
Once accepted into the MS program, students concentrate on one of MCB's four research specializations: Cell and Developmental Biology, Genetics and Genomics, Microbiology, or Structural Biology, Biochemistry and Biophysics. This MS program is designed for those aiming to expand their expertise in these scientific fields, frequently as preparation for advanced graduate studies or professional training. Students can pursue the MS in MCB through two pathways: the Thesis option (Plan A), which focuses on research, or the Non-Thesis option (Plan B), a course-intensive program demanding broad comprehension of the field.
Additional details can be found in the Graduate Catalog. Participants in the program will gain proficiency in MCB subjects, scientific writing, and analytical reasoning. Thesis-track MS candidates will additionally learn hypothesis formulation and testing, along with acquiring specialized research skills.
Individual course prerequisites for the MS in Molecular and Cell Biology are established by the student's advisory committee, aligning with both the focus area requirements and the Graduate School's minimum standards.
