The Molecular and Cell Biology (MCB) department at the University of Connecticut provides a multidisciplinary PhD program designed to equip students for thriving careers in academia, research, industry, and public service. MCB research integrates four key fields: Cell & Developmental Biology, Microbiology, Structural Biology, Biochemistry & Biophysics, along with Genetics & Genomics. Investigative work covers diverse areas such as viral studies, symbiotic relationships, microbial communities, immune system research, molecular adaptation, chromosomal studies, genetic architecture, genomic analysis, regenerative medicine, oncology research, muscular growth, cellular scaffolding, lipid membrane studies, infectious disease mechanisms, pharmaceutical development, and genetic transmission.

Personal statement:
In less than 1000 words, please discuss the following points:
• Your motivation for undertaking graduate work.
• A detailed summary of any research experience you have had, including the main question that was driving your project, and how it prepares you for doctoral studies.
• Any examples of how you have taken initiative on a research project, academic endeavor, or employment responsibility
• Any activities you have engaged in that demonstrate a commitment to enhancing diversity and inclusion in science
Note – GRE Scores are no longer required and will not be used in considering your application.

You must hold a baccalaureate degree or its equivalent from a regionally accredited college or university.
A cumulative GPA for their most recent degree of 3.0 or higher for the entire degree
Minimum overall scores of 79 (Internet-based test – iBT/ iBT Home Edition), 550 (Old Paper-based test – PBT) or 22/30 on each of the Listening, Reading, and Writing sections (''New'' Paper-based test- PBT) or higher on the TOEFL test. (TOEFL Essentials is not accepted.)
Personal Statement
A minimum overall score of 6.5 or higher on the IELTS Academic Test
A minimum overall score of 53 or higher on the PTE Test.
