The Department of Educational Psychology (EPSY) provides a Ph.D. program specializing in Research Methods, Measurement, and Evaluation (RMME). This curriculum equips students to excel in educational measurement, test theory, program assessment, large-scale and classroom-based evaluation, educational statistics, quantitative methods, and research methodologies. Graduates establish careers in academic institutions, testing organizations, research firms, state education agencies, school systems, and beyond.
The RMME Ph.D. program blends theoretical foundations with practical applications to advance measurement science in education and related fields. The curriculum covers contemporary subjects such as causal analysis, assessment tool development, classical and modern measurement theories, item response theory, advanced statistical methods, hierarchical modeling, latent variable analysis, programming for statistics, and educational evaluation. The program prioritizes building professional expertise in these domains. Typically, students undertake three years of coursework before dedicating one to two years to independent research guided by faculty advisors. Full-time students usually finish the program within five years.
Research opportunities exist across university-affiliated schools, educational institutions, informal learning environments, and faculty-led research initiatives. Numerous full-time students receive financial support through graduate research assistantships, covering tuition, health benefits, and providing a living stipend.
