The Neag School of Education provides two pathways to certification: the Integrated Bachelor's/Master's (IB/M) Teacher Education Program and the Teacher Certification Program for College Graduates (TCPCG). Details about the TCPCG can be found in the Graduate Catalog. The school has established a teacher preparation framework that combines structured inquiry opportunities, extensive clinical practice, liberal arts education, and teaching methodology within a collaborative setting. This approach fosters partnerships between public schools, professional development institutions, various Neag School departments, and the University's liberal arts and sciences faculty.
To receive the University of Connecticut's certification endorsement, candidates must successfully finish the five-year Integrated Bachelor's/Master's Teacher Education Program. Aspiring educators complete a minimum of two years in general education and subject specialization before entering the Neag School. They then undertake two years of intensive study in their major and professional education as undergraduates, followed by a final year of graduate-level professional education coursework leading to either a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction or Educational Psychology. Additionally, candidates must pass Connecticut's Praxis Core evaluation and subject-specific examinations.
