The Bachelor of Fine Arts represents the professional qualification in artistic and design fields. This B.F.A. program focuses on creative output, equipping students with the capabilities to develop and execute visual communication approaches essential for careers in the visual arts and design industries. Through rigorous studio coursework, participants acquire advanced technical abilities, creative problem-solving techniques, and critical evaluation skills, along with comprehensive knowledge of pertinent historical and theoretical contexts. Unique to the B.F.A. (as opposed to the B.A.) are two mandatory Studio Art classes. Working with the Art and Art History department, B.F.A. candidates complete ART 1030 Drawing 1 and select one additional foundational studio course from options like illustration, painting, photography, printmaking, life drawing, or sculpture. The degree also mandates twelve credits in Art/Design/Film/Digital Media History/Theory coursework.
By their third term, all B.F.A. students must select one of five specialization tracks and enroll in corresponding courses for their chosen focus area. As a culminating experience, every B.F.A. candidate completes six credits of Senior Project (spanning fall and spring semesters) plus a Portfolio and Professional Development course. These Senior Projects receive public showcasing during the DMD Senior Exhibition, marking the completion of the B.F.A. program.
