The Art and Art History Department provides diverse undergraduate Art History courses that foster an interdisciplinary grasp of visual arts' contemporary and historical significance across artistic, cultural, and social spheres. These courses explore historical timelines while examining themes like gender, identity, race, ethnicity, human rights, digital media, and visual culture.
Strengthening the program's interdisciplinary approach, Art History faculty collaborate with Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Latin American Studies, Medieval Studies, American Studies, African American Studies, Asian American Studies, European Studies, and Human Rights programs.
(Program alumni have pursued advanced degrees at institutions including UCLA, SUNY Binghamton, London's Courtauld Institute of Art, New York's Institute of Fine Arts, and Princeton University. Many have established careers in museums, galleries, and various arts organizations worldwide. Graduates have secured positions at prestigious institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Tate Modern, Wadsworth Atheneum, Real ArtWays, Mystic Seaport Museum, and Philadelphia Museum of Art.
