The ASL Studies program provides a major featuring two specializations: Deaf Studies and Interpreting between American Sign Language and English. A key objective is equipping students with the essential abilities, mindset, and understanding to have meaningful interactions within the diverse Deaf community. Furthermore, graduates will gain preparation for careers across various fields extending beyond conventional positions like ASL educators and interpreters. There's growing demand for healthcare professionals proficient in sign language, including speech therapists, mental health counselors, hearing specialists, and rehabilitation therapists. Social service providers and psychologists with ASL skills find employment at Deaf institutions and mainstream schools serving students with hearing impairments. The Interpreting concentration gives students foundational competencies required for advanced training in this rapidly expanding, high-demand field.
