Students pursuing Animal Science degrees at the Ratcliffe Hicks School of Agriculture earn an Associate of Applied Science (AAS). The program offers concentrations in Equine Studies or Dairy/Livestock Management. UConn's Equine program stands as one of the Northeast's most established and respected equine education initiatives. Originally centered on draft horses, the curriculum shifted to light horses in 1931. Today, the Animal Science Department cares for around 85 horses with a particular emphasis on Morgan horse breeding. Additionally, the university boasts a highly competitive polo team. The Department of Animal Science administers the Equine Science program within the Ratcliffe Hicks School.
