Recording Arts encompasses all facets of music and audio production, from mixing and mastering to live sound engineering and post-production. At CU Denver, Recording Arts students develop expertise in areas like multi-track recording, digital signal processing, stereo imaging, and automated mixing. The program blends academic rigor with industry relevance, offering graduate students personalized pathways aligned with their professional aspirations. Pedagogy—the art of teaching—is woven throughout, with special attention to audio education resources. The interdisciplinary curriculum spans acoustics, audio engineering, music, psychology, multimedia, and film/video production. The master's program focuses on pioneering music technology, innovative design, and developing new methodologies.

Applicants must hold a baccalaureate or master’s degree from an accredited college or university or demonstrate completion of work equivalent to the baccalaureate or master’s degree given at CU Denver. Students must have an undergraduate grade point average of 3.00 or better (“A” is equal to 4.0) or a 3.00 or better GPA in twelve (12) credit hours or more of a partially completed graduate level master’s degree program.
Minimum TOEFL IBT Total Score: 79; TOEFL Sub scores (Reading: 18, Listening: 17, Speaking: 20, Writing: 17).
Minimum IELTS Overall Band Score: 6.5, IELTS Sub scores as 5.5.
Minimum PTE Academic Score Accepted: 58.
