The University of Colorado Denver's Master of Humanities and Master of Social Science programs (MHMSS) cater to students with diverse interests who seek to explore ideas through multiple perspectives. These MH and MSS programs enable participants to enroll in cross-disciplinary courses across CU Denver, designing personalized academic paths that transcend conventional departmental divisions. This interdisciplinary approach fosters creative problem-solving and cultivates specialized analytical abilities essential for navigating an evolving global landscape.
The Master of Humanities program allows students to customize their educational journey according to their specific goals. Working closely with faculty advisors, learners create distinctive study plans by integrating various disciplines including History, Philosophy, Cultural Studies, Film, Women's and Gender Studies, Public Policy, American Studies, Fine Arts, Sociology, Literature, Anthropology, Communications, Political Science, and Economics.
Available within either the Master of Humanities or Master of Social Science degrees, the Women's and Gender Studies Track (WGST) represents an interdisciplinary specialization in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Rooted in feminist theory, queer theory, post-colonial studies, ethnic studies, and various social science approaches, this track examines how sex and gender influence societies through cultural expressions, language systems, political structures, visual media, and historical developments. WGST students engage with social theory, feminist frameworks, and gender studies while developing critical perspectives on women's experiences and gender dynamics across historical periods and contemporary contexts. The program requires completion of 9 credit hours of core coursework applicable to either the Humanities or Social Science degree, followed by specialized track requirements as detailed in the curriculum.
