The STEM-accredited Master of Architecture (M.Arch) program holds full recognition from the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB). This curriculum equips graduates for professional architectural practice and certification. Our goal is to pioneer knowledge advancement in architecture through the fusion of theoretical concepts and practical implementation. Within this cooperative learning environment, we prioritize ecological, economic, social, cultural, artistic, and moral considerations. The program provides two distinct pathways to earn your M.Arch degree, tailored to your educational background. Candidates holding non-architecture bachelor's degrees or unrelated design degrees should anticipate approximately three years to complete the M.Arch. Those with pre-professional architecture degrees or relevant design backgrounds may qualify for advanced standing, potentially finishing in roughly two years. This structure enables students without prior architectural education to obtain a professional M.Arch degree in at least three years (program length may vary). The structured program consists of six design studios, essential foundational courses, and selective electives.

Qualification Requirements

This course of study is designed for students with an undergraduate degree that was not a pre-professional degree in architecture.
Applicants must hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited university in any field.
A resume that documents your educational and professional background
Statement of purpose: The statement of purpose should be a 750-1000 word essay that describes your interest in architecture and CU Denver as well as your academic and professional goals. Avoid clichd statements such as I have always wanted to be an architect or ever since I was a child playing with legos.
Three letters of recommendation: You will submit the contact information in your application for three instructors or other professionals who can attest to your potential for our M.Arch program. They will receive an email from CU Denver with a link to upload their letters directly to your application.
Transcript(s) - International transcripts: An International Credential Evaluation Report is required for any applicant who attended one or more academic institution(s) located outside the United States. All international credentials from the academic institution(s) located outside the United States will need to be verified for authenticity and evaluated by CU Denver or an external evaluation provider (ECE or WES).
Graduate Record Exam (GRE) scores are not required for the Master of Architecture program. They are strongly encouraged if your undergraduate GPA was below a 3.0 on a 4-point scale.
International applicants must submit proof of English language proficiency. You can view the required scores on the Office of International Admissions website.
Portfolio of creative work: Your portfolio should demonstrate your ability to pursue architecture study at a high level. Your portfolio should demonstrate high-quality design as well as a technical understanding of architecture. You should include your best studio work and you are welcome to include other creative pursuits. If you include professional or other group work, please clearly indicate your role on the project. Your portfolio should be carefully organized to showcase your best work. Take care with how you compose each page and your image sequencing. Chronological is often not the best organizing schema. Portfolios should be designed for on-screen viewing. Avoid double-page spread layouts.
Students admitted into this program must have completed a Bachelor's degree before they will be able to begin this program. An official conferred degree transcript is required by the university.
