The PhD program in bioengineering equips students for professional roles across industry, government, and academic sectors. Earning this advanced degree opens doors to diverse career paths in healthcare, the biomedical field, regulatory bodies, and higher education. At CU Denver, you'll collaborate with leading faculty and researchers, selecting from specialized tracks in fundamental research, clinical practice, or medical technology development.
This doctoral program accepts applicants holding either a bachelor's or master's degree in engineering or life sciences. The degree typically takes three to five years to complete, featuring customized educational plans. Every PhD candidate must produce a dissertation, which can incorporate industry-related research components.
Students must hold an earned master's degree before they can be admitted to a doctoral program in the Department of Civil Engineering; there is no direct admission from a bachelor's program to the doctoral program. However, a student enrolled in a master's program may apply for the doctoral program before the master's degree is granted, as long as the master's degree is conferred before they enroll as a doctoral student at CU Denver.
