These degree requirements may be updated periodically by the academic department, and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences maintains the authority to approve exceptions or substitutions when deemed appropriate. Students are strongly encouraged to meet regularly with their major advisor and CLAS advisor to verify their academic plans before finalizing them. The Department of Modern Languages offers programs in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Latin, and Spanish. Students can major in Spanish and pursue minors in Chinese Studies, French, Linguistics, or Spanish. Certificate options include Chinese for International Business, Spanish for International Business, and Spanish for Healthcare Professions. Declaring a major is required before a student's final semester. The department encourages majors and minors to incorporate study abroad experiences while completing their degree at CU Denver. Consult a departmental advisor for study abroad opportunities. Credits from international programs typically apply toward major and minor requirements, but students should confirm transfer eligibility with a department advisor before enrolling. Upper-division courses taken abroad in Chinese, French, German, or Spanish follow specific study abroad and transfer credit policies.
