The Geography program (part of the Department of Geography and Environmental Sciences) provides a BA degree featuring comprehensive coursework in geographic fundamentals, primarily taught by dedicated faculty members.
Both geography and urban planning focus on the spatial organization of human environments. To strengthen this connection, an articulation agreement exists between our department and the College of Architecture and Planning, enabling qualified students to fast-track into the Master of Urban and Regional Planning (MURP) program. Undergraduate students completing the planning minor requirements may also qualify for this accelerated pathway. Interested students should coordinate closely with their academic advisor when selecting courses. (Refer to the Graduate Catalog for additional details about this program.)
These academic requirements may undergo periodic updates by the department, and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences maintains discretion to approve exceptions when warranted. Students are strongly encouraged to consult regularly with their major advisor and CLAS advisor to ensure their study plans remain current and appropriate.
Our department actively engages with critical environmental challenges. Whether examining how urban development affects social equity or exploring sustainable agricultural practices, we're dedicated to developing real-world solutions. This commitment gives students opportunities to contribute meaningfully to safeguarding our collective future.
