The art history program equips students with knowledge of artistic evolution across different periods while honing their abilities in analytical reasoning, written communication, investigative techniques, and visual culture analysis. Following a foundational year studying art and architectural history, learners can select specialized upper-level courses. The program culminates in a comprehensive thesis project. Internships offer valuable academic and career preparation, with a limit of 3 credit hours per term and 9 total credit hours. Retroactive internship credit or credit after starting the internship is prohibited. Academic advisors can provide guidance on incorporating internship credits into degree requirements.
The Art History program finishes with advanced seminars on art historical methodologies and a thesis requirement. Upper-level courses maintain small class sizes, with faculty members who are renowned scholars conducting innovative research and sharing their findings internationally. A distinctive feature of CU Denver's Art History program is its integrated open studio component within the curriculum.
