The English Writing, Rhetoric and Technology program requires students to complete one introductory course (choosing between two options), a multi-media class (selecting from two possibilities), a language theory or sociolinguistics course (three choices available), plus two advanced topics classes (with various selections). The remaining curriculum consists of seven electives from an extensive list, which may incorporate up to two non-English Writing courses (like creative writing seminars, film studies, or classes from related disciplines). For complete information, refer to the advising documents for this major. Tailored for aspiring writers, the program provides diverse intensive writing opportunities across rhetoric, professional, general, and creative writing disciplines.
These academic requirements may be updated periodically by the department, and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences maintains the authority to approve adjustments or alternatives when warranted. Consequently, students are strongly encouraged to meet frequently with both their major advisor and CLAS advisor to verify their academic plans before finalizing them.
