The Elementary Education licensure program within the Education and Human Development major emphasizes working with Colorado's increasingly diverse student and family communities. This program blends the latest educational research with hands-on classroom practice. Students learn from distinguished faculty members renowned at local, national, and global levels for their contributions to elementary education research. The curriculum delivers comprehensive knowledge and practical learning opportunities in areas like child development, culturally inclusive teaching methods, support for English learners, and educational technology for K-6 classrooms. Students gain valuable teaching experience while benefiting from our two decades of collaboration with area school districts.
Our program equips future educators to become exceptionally skilled, creative, and empathetic elementary teachers capable of enhancing student achievement and meeting the needs of diverse learners across various educational environments. Graduates develop leadership capabilities in education, with many advancing to administrative roles throughout their careers. A distinctive aspect of this program is its integration of the Culturally Linguistically Diverse Education (CLDE) endorsement. Upon completion, graduates earn both their Elementary Education License and CLDE Endorsement, qualifying them to teach in K-6 classrooms and work with culturally and linguistically diverse populations - making them exceptionally competitive in the job market.
