The Master of Arts in Media and Public Engagement (MAPE) is a two-year interdisciplinary program that bridges theoretical and practical approaches. It provides an in-depth examination of media history, institutions, economics, and societal impacts, both domestically and internationally, alongside hands-on media training focused on civic participation and community development. Alongside media theory and elective coursework, students gain skills in producing meaningful media projects through diverse formats such as documentary filmmaking, multimedia web platforms, interactive video displays, and digital tools.
Throughout the program, MAPE students work alongside faculty, community partners, nonprofits, and socially responsible businesses to explore creative approaches for analyzing, discussing, and addressing societal challenges. They also have the option to specialize in environmental topics by pursuing the Graduate Certificate in Environment, Policy and Society (EPS), requiring 18 credit hours from courses within and beyond CMCI.
Students are admitted to the program based on the quality of their proposed project and their commitment to social change and the public good. Applicants to the MA in media and public engagement must:
Hold at least a baccalaureate degree or its equivalent from an accredited college or university.
Have an undergraduate grade point average of at least 2.75.
All international applicants are required to meet a minimum standard of English proficiency.
