The Geography Department's graduate program provides both Master's and Doctoral degree options. Its primary goal is to prepare academics and professionals to generate and share knowledge while making significant impacts in various sectors. Currently, the program enrolls about 80-90 graduate students. The Master's program launched in 1930, followed by the Ph.D. program in 1965, with the first doctorate conferred in 1968. Recognized as a leading program among geography departments offering doctoral degrees nationwide, it also serves around 3,500 undergraduate students annually through its courses and maintains roughly 200 undergraduate majors.

At its core, the graduate program aims to develop scholars and professionals capable of creating and spreading knowledge while excelling in both public and private sector roles.

Qualification Requirements

Applicants must:

Hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, or have done work equivalent to that required for such a degree.

Show promise of ability to pursue advanced study and research, as judged by the student’s scholastic record.

Have adequate preparation to enter graduate study in the chosen field. Have at least a 2.75 (2.00=C) undergraduate grade point average.

All international applicants are required to meet a minimum standard of English proficiency.
