The Paul M. Rady Department of Mechanical Engineering conducts Thermo Fluid Sciences research addressing diverse fundamental and applied challenges in energy conversion, heat transfer, mass transfer, combustion, and fluid dynamics. Researchers employ experimental, theoretical, and computational methods to investigate thermalfluid phenomena across vast scales - from microscopic and nanoscale heat transfer to atmospheric and oceanic properties spanning kilometers.

Qualification Requirements

Although GPA alone doesn't paint a complete picture of a graduate student's prior performance and future potential, our most competitive applicants have an undergraduate and graduate GPA of 3.4 or above.

English Language Test Scores
International applicants are also required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Preferred scores for each of these tests are the following:

TOEFL: The minimum required score is 80, but a score of 90 or above is preferred.
IELTS: The minimum required score is 6.5, but a score of 7.5 or above is preferred.
Duolingo Englist Test (DET): The minimum required score is 120.
