Research in robotics and systems design explores core principles and techniques that allow engineered systems to demonstrate smart, purpose-driven actions, while creating advanced tools for observing, directing, and interacting with these systems. Faculty members and students collaborate within key research initiatives like the Army's Micro Autonomous Science and Technology (MAST) CTA and the AFOSR Center of Excellence on Nature-Inspired Flight Technologies and Ideas (NIFTI). Investigations in this field often build upon three foundational strengths to address varied challenges in sectors such as healthcare, defense, learning, space and marine discovery, and self-operating systems across aerial, terrestrial, and aquatic environments.
