Occupational public health is a specialized medical field centered on preventing workplace-related illnesses and injuries. Enrolled students participate in the Occupational Medicine Residency Training Program alongside earning their MPH degree. Prospective candidates need to finish a clinical year (PGY-1) prior to joining the UC Occupational Medicine residency and should either have completed or be in the process of completing their PGY-1 year when applying.
The UC MPH-Occupational Public Health program meets key criteria set by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM), equipping residents for board certification in Preventive Medicine with an Occupational Medicine specialization. Graduates are prepared for leadership roles in diverse environments such as: government institutions, academic settings, corporate healthcare divisions, hospital occupational medicine units, insurance providers, and outpatient occupational medicine clinics.
