The Department of Romance and Arabic Languages and Literatures provides a Master's program in French literature, focusing on French and Francophone poetry, prose, cinema, interdisciplinary approaches, literary criticism, and pedagogy. Our faculty members possess deep knowledge across all significant eras of French and Francophone literary history and maintain active research profiles both nationally and globally. Graduate students benefit from close mentorship during their studies, with many collaborating with professors on research initiatives or teaching assignments. Teaching assistants receive comprehensive support, including a preparatory seminar before classes begin and continuous guidance throughout the academic year. Our graduate community forms a crucial and dynamic component of the Department. The program's excellence is demonstrated by our graduates' strong placement record in educational institutions. The curriculum requires enrollment in three 4-credit courses per term, with comprehensive examinations scheduled for the spring semester of the second year. This French MA program serves as excellent preparation for secondary or postsecondary teaching careers, as well as for doctoral studies.
