Our PhD program equips students for careers as both creative writers and scholars.
Classes such as Fiction/Poetry Technique & Form and Literary Essay, combined with workshops covering poetry, short stories, novels, creative nonfiction, and experimental writing, enhance students' artistic output while developing their capacity to discuss aesthetic concepts verbally and in writing.
The literature and theory curriculum provides core knowledge while allowing specialization. Our distinguished literature professors teach diverse courses spanning historical periods and thematic studies. Students may also pursue a graduate certificate in Translation and Translation Studies across disciplines.
The teaching preparation program trains students in composition instruction while exploring methods for teaching literature and creative writing. An optional course in creative writing pedagogy is also available.
