The University of Cincinnati's Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education equips graduates to earn teaching licenses and become skilled educators for grades 7-12. Our program provides hands-on experience in urban and diverse classroom environments, employing evidence-based instructional methods to support all students. Secondary education majors focus on one core subject area: Integrated English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, or Physics.
The Integrated Mathematics certification enables graduates to teach all math subjects for grades 7-12 in Ohio, covering Algebra, Geometry, Statistics, Pre-Calculus, and with proper preparation, AP Calculus. Candidates complete coursework equivalent to a mathematics major while studying adolescent psychology, educational technology, and effective math instruction techniques. The program emphasizes developing both conceptual understanding and procedural fluency in students. Future teachers learn to design problem-based lessons, manage collaborative learning, and foster mathematical thinking skills.
