The UC College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) provides outstanding undergraduate voice training through one of the nation's top voice/opera faculties. The program focuses on cultivating essential abilities: technical proficiency, language mastery, musicality, and scholarly knowledge. Foundational vocal techniques are established through introductory art song studies. As students progress, they tackle more challenging pieces, including opera arias and oratorio selections. Vocalists must become proficient in multiple languages, including English, Italian, German, and French. The curriculum mandates one year of grammar instruction per foreign language plus specialized diction training. Musical development occurs through choir participation, music theory courses, and music history studies.
