Students pursuing the Literary & Cultural Studies specialization develop expertise as careful interpreters of literary works (including poetry, drama, fiction, and creative nonfiction) and diverse media forms (such as films, graphic novels, TV series, music, and digital platforms), while cultivating their abilities in literary critique and cultural commentary. The program equips learners with an understanding of literary techniques, structures, genres, and historical contexts through exploration of global, ethnic, and national literatures. They enhance their analytical capabilities by applying multiple theoretical frameworks - ranging from psychoanalysis and deconstruction to queer studies and digital scholarship - to examine cultural artifacts. This approach enables them to investigate complex themes including cultural dynamics, personal identity, linguistic expression, moral philosophy, racial issues, gender studies, socioeconomic factors, and international perspectives.
