As defined by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc. (NCHEC), Health Education Specialists are trained professionals who create, implement, and assess initiatives aimed at enhancing public health.

The University of Cincinnati's Health Promotion and Education curriculum equips graduates for diverse career paths in this field. These specialists focus on enhancing wellness either at individual or community levels, varying by their workplace and role. Those employed in public health departments typically develop population-wide programs, while corporate Health Education Specialists might provide personalized guidance on nutrition, exercise, stress management, smoking cessation, and other lifestyle improvements.
