Students will explore diverse teaching approaches via coursework, mentorship, and workshops, while acquiring hands-on experience through various roles in our undergraduate program. Each fall, one graduate student is chosen as Graduate Assistant for the University of Chicago's Program in Rome (late September to mid-December). This role involves teaching an Italian language course while gaining coordination experience. Benefits include round-trip travel to Rome, housing, a stipend, and daily expenses. Beyond their main focus in Italian Studies, all PhD candidates design a personalized curriculum in a secondary field, which may involve another romance literature or different discipline. By crafting their unique academic journey while building strong foundations in their chosen areas, students cultivate adaptable skills to thrive in a changing professional landscape.
