This field of study demands familiarity with how the discipline evolved in Western contexts, while also offering opportunities to focus on philosophical perspectives from non-Western religious traditions. Students may engage in original philosophical work that integrates insights from multiple traditions. The progress review (or pre-examination meeting) typically occurs during spring quarter of the second year or fall quarter of the third year. For Philosophy of Religions, this evaluation involves faculty from the specialization area and assesses completed coursework, the proposed study plan, preparation for qualifying exams, and dissertation development. Following the conference, the advisor submits an evaluation report and exam timeline to the Dean of Students.
