The Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics faculty explore diverse cutting-edge topics across the cosmos: from unraveling the Universe's origins to hunting for potentially life-supporting exoplanets, from studying the birth and development of ancient galaxies to simulating today's most powerful cosmic phenomena, from investigating our solar neighborhood to mapping the vast cosmic web. Research teams utilize premier global observatories such as Chile's 6.5-meter Magellan Telescopes at Las Campanas, the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory's Dark Energy Survey, and the South Pole Telescope. Scientists also leverage multiple space-based observatories while pioneering new missions and observation initiatives for instruments like EUSO, JWST, TESS, and SOFIA.
Applicants to our graduate and professional programs are expected to be enrolled in or to have completed a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from an accredited college or university. Applicants from a three-year bachelor’s program will be given due consideration.
