Biology explores living organisms, both ancient and modern. The College's faculty maintains that a solid foundation in biology is crucial for comprehending our existence and the natural world, while also addressing critical challenges humanity faces and contributing to potential solutions. Our program provides instruction across diverse areas, spanning theoretical and applied biology, from the molecular and genetic foundations of life to intricate ecological relationships. As part of a leading research university, all Biological Sciences Collegiate Division courses emphasize scientific thinking, investigation, and breakthroughs. The Biological Sciences curriculum aims to provide students with: (1) knowledge of established biological principles and their experimental basis, and (2) awareness of current knowledge limitations and prospects for future discoveries. Bachelor of Science (BS): The BS program caters to students seeking deeper specialization through extra electives, research involvement, and completion of a thesis documenting their findings. Graduating BS students will: (1) master scientific experimental design, (2) participate in data collection, (3) assess research data quality, (4) contextualize findings within their discipline, and (5) present their work in a formal thesis.
