Bachelor of Arts/ MA in Teaching - Education and Teaching Certification in Chicago United States | University of Chicago

The University of Chicago's Urban Teacher Education Program (UChicago UTEP) is a two-year master's program that includes support after graduation. Participants earn a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree and Illinois teaching certification through UChicago UTEP. The program offers two certification options: Elementary (grades 1-6) and Middle Grades (5-8). Both pathways align with Illinois' updated licensure framework and teaching standards, covering either: (1) all core subjects for self-contained elementary classrooms (grades 1-6), or (2) specific core subjects for departmentalized middle school settings (grades 5-8). UChicago UTEP also provides a combined BA/MAT option for eligible fourth-year College students. These BA/MAT candidates fully engage in all program components alongside MAT students during the two-year duration. In this dual program, undergraduates finish their bachelor's degree while simultaneously completing the MAT program's first year (Foundations Year). After earning their BA and completing the Foundations Year, students transition into the Residency Year as full MAT candidates.
