The CACREP-accredited Counselor Education specialization within the PhD in Education program caters to aspiring counselor educators seeking university-level teaching positions or supervisory roles in schools and agencies. This doctoral program provides comprehensive training in teaching adult learners, counseling techniques, clinical supervision, academic research, and leadership development.
Taking a hands-on approach to counselor education, the curriculum combines classroom instruction with practical experience at the UCF Community Counseling and Research Center. This facility functions as both a training ground and research center, where doctoral candidates gain experience by (a) offering therapy services to individuals, couples, and families across all age groups and (b) supervising master's students during their clinical practicum. The CCRC annually assists over 1,400 clients throughout central Florida, with its core mission focused on developing exceptional counselor educators who can take on leadership positions in various professional environments.
