The Master of Arts program spans two academic years. Students holding a Bachelor's in Linguistics from UCSC who completed core graduate courses during their undergraduate studies may finish in one year.
To earn the degree, students must complete at least nine courses (45 units) beyond their bachelor's requirements. This includes: the A series covering phonology, syntax, and semantics; two B series electives; and four additional graduate linguistics courses (with at least one selected from a specified list).
Student must have a four-year bachelor's degree at an English-speaking institution.
English Language Testing
For those choosing to take the TOEFL, a minimum score on the paper-based TOEFL of 550, or 220 on the computer-based test, or 83 on the internet-based test is required for admission.
For those choosing to take the IELTS, a minimum overall score of 7 from the IELTS test is required for admission.
