The M.A. program in EEB enables students to conduct graduate-level research that is more focused and of shorter duration compared to Ph.D. projects. While M.A. candidates complete some coursework alongside doctoral students, they are exempt from Comprehensive and Qualifying examinations. A thesis is mandatory for the Master's degree.
First-year M.A. students must enroll in BIOE 200A (Scientific Skills) and BIOE 200B (Organismal Biology) during fall quarter, BIOE 279 in winter quarter, and complete two quarters of BIOE 203 (or one quarter of 203 plus one quarter of 215) within their initial two years. Continuous enrollment in BIOE 281, 294, and 297 is required each quarter while in residence. All students must maintain a minimum enrollment of 15 units per term, except when granted Part-Time status approval.
Student must have a four-year bachelor's degree at an English-speaking institution.
