Many assume studying history simply involves memorizing names and dates. While foundational knowledge is crucial, university-level history education emphasizes developing skills to formulate fresh inquiries, uncover novel evidence, include diverse perspectives, and re-examine established beliefs. As a UCSC history student, you'll gain a comprehensive view of humanity's journey through time and across continents. You'll examine how contemporary issues such as economic disparity, environmental crises, and systemic racism have evolved throughout history. The program investigates social movements and political shifts that reveal how societies transform. While history focuses on past events, it equally illuminates our present reality.
