Professors in the Culture, Language, and Human Development program employ interdisciplinary research approaches, applying anthropological, linguistic, psychological, and sociological frameworks to examine children, adolescents, and adults within educational and everyday cultural contexts. Their work encompasses investigations into lifelong learning processes and developmental trajectories, along with the cultural socialization of individuals from varied linguistic and ethnic backgrounds across different national and global environments. Research in culture and language focuses on native and additional language acquisition, sociolinguistic studies, bilingual/multilingual education for ESL/ELL and heritage language students, language socialization practices, educational sociolinguistics, identity and language relationships, and the integration of technology in school-based language instruction.
