The department's doctoral program covers all areas of Earth Science research, including Grand Canyon studies. To obtain your PhD, you'll need to: successfully complete the Competency and Qualifying examinations, conduct original Earth Science research, write and defend a dissertation, and meet these course requirements: Earth 201A and 201B, Earth 260 every quarter during residency, one unit of Earth 268 (Research Presentation), along with thirty extra elective units or committee-assigned coursework (with a minimum of twenty graduate-level units). Important: Earth 260 and all 500-level courses (excluding 596) cannot be applied toward the thirty-unit minimum.
