The University of California, Santa Barbara provides a PhD Emphasis in Cognitive Science for doctoral candidates. Students from twelve participating departments—including Anthropology, Communication, Comparative Literature, Computer Science, Education, English, Geography, Linguistics, Media Arts & Technology, Music, Philosophy, and Psychological and Brain Sciences—can join the emphasis program by fulfilling additional course requirements, showcasing their research, and focusing on cognitive science-related inquiries in their academic work.
This Cognitive Science Program embodies the cross-disciplinary focus of faculty and students across the College of Letters & Sciences, Gevirtz Graduate School of Education, and the College of Engineering from the mentioned departments, along with contributing faculty from other areas such as Electrical & Computer Engineering, Sociology, and Counseling Clinical & School Psychology. It serves as a framework that encourages the exchange of research ideas and fosters collaboration among faculty, departments, and students.
