The Bachelor of Science in Financial Mathematics and Statistics is a collaborative program offered by the Mathematics Department and the Statistics and Applied Probability Department, working alongside the Economics Department. This program is ideal for students interested in understanding how mathematical principles, statistical methods, and probability theory are crucial for valuing financial instruments and managing risk in markets. Over the last ten years, the Department has significantly evolved to embrace data-centric approaches, becoming a key contributor to UCSB's data science efforts. To meet growing student demand for computational techniques and data analysis skills, we're introducing various new courses and degree options. The Department is home to the Center for Financial Mathematics and Actuarial Research (CFMAR), recognized globally for its work in quantitative finance, actuarial science, and stochastic modeling. Additionally, we offer professional consulting via our DataLab. In 2022, UCSB earned the prestigious Center of Actuarial Excellence designation from the Society of Actuaries, standing as the sole California university with this recognition.
