The B.F.A. in Dance program focuses on performance and choreography skills. This specialized degree is ideal for students aiming for professional dance careers or advanced studies. The Theater and Dance Department fosters a vibrant learning atmosphere, dedicated to cultivating students' creative expression and analytical abilities while preparing them for careers as performers, choreographers, designers, and more. The program also offers comprehensive arts education through dance and theater.
Students enjoy numerous performance opportunities across four venues, with the department staging 5 main theater productions annually—from classical works to new play previews—plus 3 major dance concerts featuring the resident Santa Barbara Dance Theater company. The program also hosts dozens of smaller-scale productions. Beyond faculty instruction, students regularly collaborate with visiting professional artists and scholars throughout the academic year.
You are considered a freshman applicant if you have completed secondary school and have not enrolled at any college or university.
English Language Proficiency
The minimum accepted score for admission consideration for the TOEFL is 80 or better on the Internet-based test and 550 or better on the paper-based test.
The minimum accepted score for the IELTS is 6.5 or better band score (academic modules).
