From its founding, UCSD's communications division has stood out as one of the most prominent and extensive global communications research groups. Faculty research covers diverse areas such as adaptive signal processing, network communications, data analytics, digital communication principles, electromagnetic wave behavior, error-correcting codes, multimedia compression techniques, information science, along with stochastic systems, control methods, and optimization strategies. This work finds practical use in cognitive radio systems, networked control systems, distributed data storage, social network analysis, memory technologies, wireless communication systems, sensor arrays and the Internet of Everything (IoE), as well as underwater acoustic communication pathways.
