The UCSD Playwriting MFA program nurtures playwrights with unique, powerful voices who create captivating narratives. Each year, we accept just one or two writers, maintaining a cohort of no more than five students. This ensures personalized, in-depth guidance along with numerous production experiences where MFA candidates refine their skills, artistic voice, and creative perspective. Our exceptional production resources enable writers to work hand-in-hand with peers from the MFA acting, directing, design, dance, and stage management programs, bringing impactful theatrical works to life during our acclaimed Wagner New Play Festival held each spring.
