The CSME Ph.D. Program at UC San Diego is an interdisciplinary initiative across the campus, preparing future scientists, mathematicians, and engineers in cutting-edge computational science methods. This doctoral program complements existing Ph.D. tracks in several key departments (refer to the CSME Overview page for participating departments). Students earn their standard departmental Ph.D. while also receiving a "Specialization in Computational Science" credential. This specialization represents the UC system's formal recognition of doctoral-level expertise in a secondary discipline. The CSME curriculum adapts standard graduate requirements in partner departments to incorporate computational science components. While the Center for Computational Mathematics in UCSD's Math Department oversees program administration, all participating departments share equal responsibility in shaping, implementing, and advancing the CSME Graduate Program.
