The Mechanical Engineering Department (ME) at UC Riverside (UCR) provides graduate education opportunities in focused mechanical engineering disciplines. With approximately 30 faculty members and around 90 graduate students, we deliver both Master of Science (M.S.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programs featuring diverse research opportunities.
Students can obtain the M.S. in Mechanical Engineering through either of two pathways:
Submitting an original thesis (Plan I) that presents innovative research on a specific topic
Successfully passing a comprehensive exam
M.S. candidates must fulfill a minimum three-quarter residency requirement (one full academic year) within the University of California system, with at least two quarters completed at UCR. Each quarter of residence requires enrollment in a minimum of 4 units of 100 or 200-level coursework. Full-time students typically register for 12 units per quarter unless approved for reduced load by the Graduate Advisor.
